Resilience – a word we are hearing often now, but what does it really mean?

It refers to how well you can deal with and bounce back from the difficulties of life. BUT why does it matter?

Recognising and coping with pressure and stress is part of everyday life. Individuals need to build their own resilience, including health and wellbeing.

Simply put, you need to master the skills of coping while under pressure and importantly, how you recover.

The way we behave is shaped by a range of factors including personality and historical experiences, as well as current circumstances and the people around us. All these things influence your resilience.

So, what can you do?

You can draw on a range of strategies to cope with the pressure.

· Recognising your thoughts and emotions and managing them

· Learn to ask for help when you need it, this is critical

· Being willing to persevere when the going gets tough

· Recognising and respecting your own limits, including what you can control and what you cannot

‘Resilience and Coping’ is one module from my 10-part Life Skills Course.
